Instrumental Music

St Anthony’s Catholic College encourages all students to participate in music regardless of age or ability. As part of the Instrumental Music Program, students are able to learn an instrument, participate in ensembles and perform within the College and for the wider community. St Anthony’s hosts a vibrant co-curricular music program, and provides opportunities for students to perform at the Townsville Eisteddfod, attend Mulkadee (the Catholic Youth Arts Festival) and sit their AMEB or Trinity College music exams. In recent years, students have also been able to attend music camps, and ensembles have travelled to Brisbane to perform at the Queensland Catholic Schools’ Music Festival.

In conjunction with the comprehensive P-12 classroom music program at the College, the Instrumental Music Program at St Anthony’s allows students to undertake tuition on a musical instrument. The instruments and families include:

  • Brass – Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium and Tuba
  • Woodwind – Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Bassoon and Saxophone
  • Percussion
  • Strings – Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass
  • Guitar – Acoustic and Bass
  • Piano
  • Voice
  • Theory

To complement their instrumental tuition, St Anthony’s offers students the opportunity to be part of many varied instrumental ensembles. Being part of an ensemble is a great chance for students to extend their reading and performance abilities, as well as having a great time making music with other like-minded musicians. These groups are funded by the College, and there is no additional fee to participate. Ensembles currently rehearsing and performing at St Anthony’s Catholic College include:

  • Assisi Concert Band
  • Padua Concert Band
  • Senior Guitar Ensemble
  • Middle School Guitar Ensemble
  • Padua Guitar Ensemble
  • Worship Band
  • Assisi Big Band
  • Padua Strings
  • Beginner Strings

Throughout the year, students may also be asked to perform as part of the College Percussion Ensemble, Woodwind Ensemble and Brass Ensemble.

The Instrumental Music Program at St Anthony’s is a vibrant place, providing plenty of opportunities for students to learn and perform. With guidance from our dynamic group of teachers and fantastic support from the College, we are sure that your child will find their musical feet.
